    I can handle a little silly, but there's just TOO MUCH in those beginning episodes. They're pretty heavy-handed with the characterization. Honestly, ep 1 is pretty damn solid, but ep 2 just gets silly.

    Oh, they're definitely extremely saccharine, but for me, the campness and good-humoured adventuring was what made it worthwhile, and I imagine it's the same for children. They want light-hearted fun and enjoyment, not complex, dark, involved scenarios. The show did that extremely well, and they even threw in a musical number, to boot. It was an emulation of the general Disney model film and I can't fault them for that, they got a lot of it right.

    Not perfect, yeah, certainly not for an older audience like us, but what we all need to remember is that we're in no way the target demographic. Hell, we're barely even periphery. Families are the goal, and the first two episodes were perfect for families.

I think the difference is that AJ and Rarity are actually constantly hard at work, while Dash is a lazy fuck, Pinkie cooks but eats half the stock and is just bubbly and silly, Twilight runs a library in her home that nobody seems to use, Fluttershy hangs around with a bunch of animals.

    Dash and Fluttershy have legitimately important jobs for Ponyville but we don't see them working nearly as much as AJ and Rarity, who more or less have full careers.
