When I first found FO:E, i read the first two chapters or so, decided it was good enough to read, and put it down for a couple of days.

On the weekend, when I had nothing better to do, I sat down and read the all of what had been written up to that point in one sitting, some twenty-odd chapters.

the difference is that anybody with word can produce a fan fic and its quality won't be obvious until after you've read it. if you're lucky the signs that it suck will come early and often and you can drop it.

with drawings quality is instantaneously obvious. people for the most part know how good their art is and try to improve, but terrible fan fic writers can and will keep right on writing terrible fan fics without improvement.
