I had a similar idea for a fanfic of Lyra's origin. Her obsession with humanity would be because she herself had been a human that had actually gotten their wish of coming to Equestria (whether they were male or female beforehand would not be specified), but the more time she spent there, the more she began to forget her humanity. In an effort to keep her memories, she began keeping a journal, and even drawing occasionally (discovering that she was actually very artistically talented with the use of her magic). Over time, however, she would realize that she would be happier if she merely forgot her old life than if she constantly tried to remind herself of it, and she would decide to burn the journal.

Fast forward a few weeks, and she finds several pages and drawings that had fallen out under her bed. She feels a strange connection to them, not realizing that she herself is responsible for them but finding them to be somewhat comforting, and this is how it would start.

I never did anything with it though.

I'm only continuing Nathan Quest because a few anons and Shockwave are really enjoying it. It was fun at first, but it's like watching the Drawn Together movie: yeah, there are cheap laughs, but those only last so long before they get boring. At this point I'm really ready to just move on to the story-driven Christmas quest, and that's what this one would be. It would take core elements of Nathan Quest and put them in a story-driven environment, which would do a lot to remove the CYOA feel and make it feel more like an actual quest.
