Twilight Sparkle goes looking for her Smarty Pants doll after the events of Lesson Zero. Applejack finds out Big Mac has it and makes fun of him for it, then tells Twilight where it is.

Big Mac at first tries to hand it back like it's nothing, but after questioning why he took it he admits he never had a childhood of his own because he's always been working the farm.

Twilight's touched by his story and they end up playing with the doll (and I don't know, maybe Spike joins in with some toy of his own, probably insisting it's an action figure). Applejack apologizes for not realizing her brother was sensitive.

This idea would never work. Continuity between episode plots can only really work in terms of forecasting a major season finale or opening event, because they don't have control over the order of airing and they don't expect their target demographic to remember the show between episodes.

Also, it'd probably be seen as too closely identified with the "Brony" phenomenon, since the aesop is basically "sometimes older boys like things belonging to little girls". They had their nod when Big Mac ran off with the doll in the first place, don't overdo it.

Also, shipping. The show will never have characters enter a relationship.

It's assumed, but never discussed, that there is a larger world outside of Equestria and that this too would be fucked, but the show makes a conscious effort not to think about it and doesn't talk about the world outside of Equestria. Children, by extension, are probably not going to think about the world being threatened or saved, just Equestria.

Conceptualizing the world in the show would require demonstrating things like what the planet looks like, who lives there, etc. and for characters to start talking about how these places would also be affected by the world-threatening plots of the pony nation.

If Nightmare Moon returned and threatened night eternal to a group of ponies, Griffons, and Dragons who together exclaimed the end of the world was near, they'd be demonstrating "saving the world". The pilot was just saving Equestria, while saving the rest of the world was incidental and not thought of.

None of these episodes would work.

The body-swapping episode would not work because the show already does pairs-demonstrating-they're-different-but-alike and forcing all six to participate in such an exchange in one episode would result in horrible pacing and a lack of focus, not to mention tread all over groundwork done in previous episodes (Fall Weather Friends, Look Before You Sleep, that one where Fluttershy became a model).

The cutie mark crusaders can't ever get their cutie marks since that is the defining aspect of their characters, not to mention the episode structure where any episode can air before any other besides the finale and opener means that it'd have to happen in a finale or opener and as a plotline it's simply not compelling enough, the CMC are b-listers and won't steal a whole season finale from the main cast.

Lastly, the series will never have a single series finale, since the show is a marketable IP that'll be run out until it's no longer profitable and then immediately dropped. A lavish finale is pointless since the show ends afterward, meaning attracting viewers or impressing the existing audience is a waste of time since you can't retain them.

Dexter shorts are shorter than regular episodes and Tron had more cultural relevance back then (the modern movie isn't very kid-friendly, while kids were likely to watch the original Tron even though 'programs' died in it).
