I read it about a week ago. It was okay, I enjoyed it if only because the whole "raising a pony you found from birth" idea is too adorable to me. I thought it was weird how the whole story the main character goes on about how she opened up the world to him and brought life back into his life, but they still kind of live as reclusive shut-ins. The dialogue was indeed very clunky at times, and overall the story was, lacking meat on its bones, shall we say, but I still found it enjoyable. By skeleton I meant that I have your character's reason for being where it is and a reason to stay there, but that's about it. Basic premise is that your are leading an archaeological expedition and you and your team find something truly ancient. This is where the players would gain control and would hopefully do things like explore the dig site and explore what was found.

You know what I'd do with Discord's powers?

I'd kidnap all the fillies and colts in ponyville.

I keep them in one big cage for a week, not doing anything to them. Giving them water but little food.

Then while the slept, I'd plant bombs in each of them.

I'd release them after a week to their families and friends, and right at the moment that they embrace with those dearest to them, I activate the some of the bombs planted inside them and blow some of them up. Then I stop, and I watch the reactions of people, to see which fillies and colts get turned away from fear of them being bombs.

I'll then blow up one every few days until they're all dead, suffering and banished from Ponyville

My plan for the "Celestia wants you dead" plan was to basically have an organization headed by Celestia dedicated to suppressing this kind of find. The organization puts some of it's members into each archaeological expedition, and if something is found that Celestia doesn't want her subjects knowing about the members will call for guards. Often times this ends either in the group leaving because "the area is unsafe" or the group is never heard from again.

I'm not too happy with this plan of action, though. It would restrict the amount of time the players had to act and would pretty much railroad them down one of two paths.

I could always go with the "an ancient evil has awoken," but I have no idea what I could give the players to let them fight it, namely because I don't know what kind of ancient evil I want.

It's possible, but how would you learn about everything you have found if you are having to sneak around ponies as they demolish the site? I was think of the players making heavy use of NCs to help them out while using their PC to make all the big decisions and find, but maybe not understand, the discoveries.

For example: The players choose to play as a Unicorn, so they get to be the language specialist. They let the NPCs take care clearing rubble out of the site and after examining the ruble discover this find would lead to the history textbooks being completely rewritten. They make their way into the site itself to see what they can find, bringing NPCs with them to act as muscle. This would focus less on combat and more on discovery.

The players choose to play as an Earth Pony: They are the first ones into the site itself and realize that what they just found was big, but won't know how big until they can clear it out and bring in some Unicorn NPCs to do translation and date work. This would focus more on combat, either with wildlife, traitors and eventually Celestia's forces if they take to long isolating their dig site, or minions of the ancient evil.

Players choose a Pegasi: I have no clue at all how they would help out. Maybe set the find around a deep chasm or something so they feel like their choice of a Pegasi was a good one.
