So I realised something today, while I was at a Gymkhana for secondary school students. (Don't ask me why, my job just takes me weird places sometimes.) The reason MLP in general and this cartoon series in particular are popular with young girls is because young girls like ponies. Simple as. And I can see why! Ponies are pretty cool animals, all of the attractiveness and utility of horses, but with a size that isn't as intimidating for little girls. Girls (and some boys) love ponies, and thus they love My Little Pony. It just makes sense. Kudos for your design choice, creators of My Little Pony.

But that caused me to question (again) what the attraction of this series is to you weird neckbeards? I would love to take like a few dozen of you, lock you in a bunch of cubicles with pencils and paper and tell you all to draw your best attempt at a real pony, just to see what kind of horrible mutations would result. I highly doubt the majority of you fetishize the actual animal at all, or even dream of owning one like an actual little girl would. Clearly the attractive aspect of MLP, for you, is not the aspect of "pony". I doubt any of you would look twice if you saw a girl riding a real pony on the way to work or whatever.
