10/29/11(Sat)17:31 No.31005493I'm just gonna go full autistic here and talk about MLP GURPS in the vague hope that someone here is actually familiar with the system. I would go to /tg/, but last I checked ponies were ban-on-sight there still.
Anyway, there's basically three observations I've made.
1) Ponies probably don't actually have the "No Fine Manipulators" disadvantage. Well, at first, I thought, okay, sure they do. I mean, they only have hooves. That hardly qualifies as a "fine manipulator." But they play interests with them. They write with their mouths. They (or just Rarity, maybe...?) can manipulate objects with their tails. The rulebook is rather vague on what exactly defines a "fine manipulator", giving only a few examples of things that can't be done without them. So, can a pony pick a lock? Make precise repairs? Tie a knot?
2) If you're not a unicorn, your combat options are very limited. We have no reason to believe that the ponies have invented, or can even use weaponry as we know it. I don't believe there are any examples of weapons in the show. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, that means that for Earth Ponies and Pegasus, your only offensive option, is, essentially, unarmed combat. This might bore some players, especially if the party is mostly non-unicorn.
3) At first, I thought that I would represent Cutie Marks with the "talent" advantage. It seemed to fit, at first, and it still works for ponies who talents are an identifiable set of skills, like Fluttershy or Cheerilee. However, many ponies talents are too vague or unable to be represented via skills - Pinkie's fall into the former, Dash and Twilight's into the latter. I decided that Cutie Marks aren't really something that need to be represented by rules - just like your character's hair or eye color, it's just something you choose. |
