I was going over a few threads on Ponychan when I stumbled upon a fanfiction review thread. Inside I found a review for a fic called "Cheerilee's Garden".

The following lines caught my attention:

"I want to thank you for showing me that there is, indeed, something worse than Cupcakes out there. This is pure gore pornography, and I feel filthy just honoring it with a review.

The plot is thin. You decide to have Cheerilee go insane and then act upon these whims in the most horrible fashion possible, outshining gore classics like Hostel and Saw. I do not know whether to congratulate you or not."

I became curious and googled the title (since Ponychan removed all links to it from their site) and let me just tell you the reviewer did not exaggerate in the slightest.
That was one of the most intense pieces of fanfictions I've ever read! And I didn't even think the plot was -that- thin. Certainly a lot more thought out than Cupcakes's 7 page rush to gory.

Although it has a higher volume of gore and violence than Cupcakes, it is less disturbing to me because the killer has been driven to her actions. In Cupcakes, Pinkie is simply unhinged; we never find out how long the darkness has been there, and we never find out if she gets caught or gets away.

For months after reading Cupcakes, I would be talking to friends or family and suddenly think, "Cupcakes." In that moment, I disassociated, and started thinking of how easy it would be to kill. One blow to the head, then hide the body and get away. I wouldn't be a free man for very long, given the clear evidence and my personal connection to the victim, but I knew I could at least commit the act. And then I would force myself to stop thinking in that manner, because I didn't want to be that person.

The only aftereffect of reading Cheerilee's Garden was coming to the MLP General, reading the thread, and thinking, "Weeds, weeds everywhere."
