I visited the /b/ pony threads twice. It was a bit like a safari. An expedition, if you will.

The first time, it was great. Everyone there was very friendly, helpful to new viewers to the show (not myself, but two people there mentioned they were first time viewers), and while almost every poster was tripfagging and posted with a picture, it didn't really bother me (because caring about tripfags, 2011, I seriously hope, etc. and it is an imageboard). There was even discussion of the show, original content produced, and very little porn at all. It was great, and I was pretty appalled at how bad you guys made it sound, because I expected nothing but futa porn and literal circlejerking where people care more about who is posting than the show. I had just about resigned myself to never coming back to /co/ threads. This was around 4AM in the morning.

I came back to the /b/ threads around midday the next day, and the landscape had vastly changed. No more OC, no more show discussion, and all of the tripfags were literally just chatting about themselves and other tripfags. They weren't even arguing about characters or show-relevant information. It was literally just talking about their day, like some sort of mass blog with pony reaction images and pony porn. Oh yes, the porn. While night /b/ had perhaps one image per thread, day /b/ was gushing with it. Almost all of it was Berry Punch and/or Lyra/BonBon... which was weird. Either one person there is super enthusiastic about those characters, or day /b/ is obsessed. Not to be deterred, I -did- make an effort to restart discussion about the show. I tried upcoming episodes, past episodes, "what do you want to see in the future?", character discussion, plot discussion, and even resorted to "which character is your favorite?" All but the last got no replies (technically "Anyone want to discuss the show?" got one reply: "That's what Ponychan is for.") They only wanted to talk about fanfiction and fanart.

In conclusion, I think that while many of the complaints leveled at /b/ threads are fair, I think we might generalize too much. It seems that, much like our own community, their community varies quite a bit based on who is actually doing the posting. Certainly, our threads (and boards) have very different cultures, and both of us have periods in our posting that we SHOULD be ashamed of (for them, circlejerks, for us religious shitstorms and the like). Still, I think something could be gained from mutual understanding.
