>>30718678 Since the writers seem to like to play with classical mythology, we can sort of guess at Luna's personality by contrasting her with Celestia, the way the ancients compared the Moon and the Sun:
According to the ancient poets, the Sun is "constant", the Moon is "changeable". Therefore Celestia is the calm, rational one, while Luna is the fickle, slightly crazy one.
The Greek god of the Sun, Apollo, represented the triumph of human intellect over base nature. His sister, Artemis the goddess of the Moon, was closely tied to Nature. Therefore Celestia would prefer the civilized world of Canterlot, while Luna would prefer the wilderness of the Everfree Forest.
The Sun is associated with imperishable gold that never tarnishes, while the Moon is silver, which can tarnish and darken. Therefore Celestia has mastery over herself, while Luna still has failings that she must constantly stand on guard against. She's probably a little jealous and resentful of her older sister's "perfection". |
