I think that AJ was initially supposed to be the tomboy of the group.

This show has a habit of screwing with our expectations (seriously who saw Twilights mental breakdown in ep.3 coming?).

So I'm guessing, even though the synopsis for ep.5 is focused on Sweetie Bell and her sister Rarity, the episode will really be about Scootaloo and her lack of a sister for the event.

Calling it now: Scootaloo is a disabled pegasus who has to live on the ground, since her wings are too small for proper flight and she doesn't posses the ability to walk on clouds. She DOES have a sister and parents though, but they're off living in Cloudsdale while Scoots is stuck in some boarding school for disabled ponies.
