Here's what was off about the episode, for people who said "something seemed off but I can't figure it out". The first half, the show was at a slower pace than it usually is. The characters were talking slowly and more pronounced, and they sounded exaggerated and a bit silly compared to normal. It was like they didn't write enough episode and had the actors draw out their lines to make up for it. Or they were just trying to be funny.

The second half was more like the show normally is. However, the directing seems a little bit different, like things are more close up than they usually are. The ponies seem bigger, like their legs are longer sometimes. And there's more animation.

Their towns are small, the populations of them even smaller, relatively few houses and businesses, lots of nature and space, and distance between the settlements. Even Manehattan, their big city, had forest line close enough that it could be clearly seen by applejack in one of the cities largish buildings. It can't really be all that big for a city.

I think the overall pony population is rather small. They may have a pretty low birth rate or something, or a high predation rate. I can't see them being too threatening to neighbors due to that
