I've been trying to figure out why I like twilight so much, and I finally figured it out I think.

She's probably the most realistic nerdy girl I've ever seen on TV. Nerd girls on TV are always either "nerd chic" bullshit, or SO socially awkward that you wonder how they function. They're either as oblivious to the real world as a stereotypical 50's scientist (or Reed Richards) or so concerned with what others think of them that them talking to the main character is SO outrageous its what starts the entire plot.

Twilight strikes a balance between poise and insecurity, between social naivety and awareness, and it's so damn genuine it almost hurts sometimes.

A lot of people complain that the characters in FiM are just archetypal cutouts, and thats true to a large extent. But they don't ACT like cutouts, they act like people. They don't have speeches and lines, they have conversations. The things they do and say feel natural rather than scripted.

And that's something a lot of media fails at, especially kids shows.

MegaSweet's competent, but I wish they would just stop the requests and commissions for like a month and just go nuts and experiment so they could specify the designs of their humanizations even further. I like Tess and I know that they have more up their sleeve than they're letting on with their pony art. thelivingmachine needs to work on their anatomy a little more as the quality of their work seems inconsistent, but there's some energy in the drawings there, I'm hopeful. Rose's work is fluid and fun. GlitterGlue's work seems wonderfully crude and he knows that so he goes for laughs or knowing smiles. He usually succeeds.

I'm not denying that I'm critical, yes I am. This is also about the third time I've said the above though, too, so I'm taking a screencap the next time someone whips out that one damn post on two of very few artists I find to be hopeless (KM and Caluliri). Eh. Its pretty generic shounen and its not that well written (though like I said, most of /a/ considered the first arc the best and find it worth reading/watching). I'm not surprised a /co/merrade wouldn't like it. Its a very "anime" show. If you don't like their style of action cartoon, you won't like it.

I lacks a lot of the things /co/ likes in anime. It doesn't have the atmosphere of Ruroni Kenshin, the style of Cowboy Bebop, the strong cast of Fullmetal Alchemist, the depth of Big O, intensity of DBZ, the more serious themes of the Gundam franchises, the cool setting of Outlaw Star... in other words, it comes up short in every category the typical /co/ poster gives anime credit for.

I'm more of a /a/ guy myself, so I liked it... up to a point.

Now I read it every week out of some sick obligation to see how it ends. I guess I'm like a Smallville fan...
