Manehatten is obviously Manhatten, the pony equivalent of New York City. It's going to be huge, probably the largest city in Equestria.
Cloudsdale is a factory town with a big sports arena, which suggests a Rust Belt city like Detroit or Chicago. Big, but not as big as Manehatten
Canterlot is a fantasy version of an old European capital (Word-of-God suggests that it's actually modeled after Minis Tirith from The Lord of the Rings). In theory, it should be the largest city, but it's drawn smaller than Cloudsdale, and my impression is that it's a small town meant to be a seat of government, culture, and learning.
Appleoosa is, of course, every frontier town in every Western you've ever seen. It's a tossup whether it's larger or smaller than Ponyville.
Ponyville is the classic small Midwest farm town from old TV shows like Mayberry RFD. It has one government official, a one-room schoolhouse with a single teacher, and nothing but Mom & Pop businesses. It's a hick town--I should know, I grew up in one. |
