That may be, however there is a very specific reason for why we find the aesthetic appealing. It is because the big eyes/big head motif is naturally found cute in humans, largely because we need to think babies are cute so that we will protect them.

Cuteness, by all intents and purposes, should be separate from sexuality, but how this gap is bridged is something I can't say for sure.
