"Don't do that!"
The cry came from behind them, and the two creatures spun around to meet its source face to face. Unfortunately, this brought the strange clock up to eye level with their attacker, who grabbed it out of Nyx's hooves, quickly flying away into the centre of a nearby crowd.
With one final tick, the timer on the clock struck zero, and both Nyx and Griffy watched in shock and awe as Ponyville's largest population chokepoint, Sugar Cube Corner, was blown away in a simoon of fire and smoke. Debris hurtled across the town, crushing and slaying countless more creatures, and Nyx was barely able to fling up a rudimentary shield for the two creatures as a torrid spume of magical magma consumed the town around them.
By the time the dust had cleared and they were able to open their eyes and survey the landscape formerly known as Ponyville, it was already too late. Everyone was gone, including their mystery saviour, and they inhabited the last landmass for a mile in every direction - a weak clump of rocks, floating unsteadily on the current of a stream of magma.
"This is just like in Episode 3!" Griffy cried, brandishing his lightsaber. Nyx looked confused, both by the gryphon's Maine-like accent, the fact that he sounded far younger than he claimed to be, and the strange magical contraption he wielded, so he put it away, sighing awkwardly as he rubbed the back of his head, ashamed.
"Let's try and make it back to land," she added, careful not to hurt the poor gryphon's feelings. "I wonder if anyone is hurt?"
"That was a pretty big blast of light and fire and sound and stuff," Griffy shot back, dismayed. "I think maybe some people might be a little scratched up? I dunno though, I'm just a useless gryphon - wait, no, pgymy gryphon, that's it!"
Nyx groaned, slamming a hoof into her forehead out of frustration. The impact caved her skull in, but she didn't mind. Not like she needed it. |
