Curious, vengeful and sadistic aren't really characteristics we can ascribe to Discord. I've said something to this effect before, but to repeat myself: Discord is best thought of as one of the Kindly Ones. We ascribe to them thoughts and motives, emotions and wants because it is how we see the world, but they are truly without such things. There is no desire tucked under the breast of chaos, there is no malice hidden behind their eyes; they take from you not because they bear you any ill will, but merely because that is what they are. We paint them in colors of human emotions because it helps us to give reason to our own pain. But this, ultimately, is what makes them terrifying. They don't hate you, they don't want to hurt you, they don't even care that you exist, but they'll take from you just the same.
That or he's a Saturday morning cartoon villain that is comically random and motivated by nothing more than a desire to move the plot forward and an interest in amusing the audience. |
