I mean, the whole concept of "trying your hand" was the motivating factor in Dash's decision to, despite being the only pony in a world full of humans, to carry on the legacy of your family as best she could, with the help of her partner. With your approval they'd gone to every effort to adopt a poor, lonely young orphan, painstakingly agonising over every little, trivial detail of the minutiae necessary to push all the legal processes through. Dash had been fearful the entire time, coming to you for as much help as she could - you'd raised her as best you could from the start, after all, a human raising a pony filly, and that unique element made you best qualified for helping her do the same in reverse. When you'd gone to the orphanage with her and your child-in-law to meet the lucky kid for the first time, it had been your efforts at greasing the wheel that had started them all talking. Everything had been quiet, awkward, and uncomfortable, but you'd stepped up to the plate, taken a swing, and hit the metaphorical home run. It meant you could sit back and watch in ease of heart and mind, if not body, as they got to know each other, and in subsequent visits, became something beginning to resemble a family.
You were getting on in years at the time, and you didn't want to leave Dash alone in the world. Giving her the opportunity to have a child and experience the same pure joy you did, despite all the challenges involved, was the greatest gift you could have left her with.
She may not have been a maternal type before, but it definitely shone through by the time age really started hitting you hard. |
