Response to something in the last thread:

Earlier today on /co/ someone compared Adventure Time to "The new Invader Zim."

Then I realized how apt a comparison that was.

Then I was legitimately sad.

The MLP/Sonic fandom thing doesn't bother me, because while I love this cartoon to death, I recognized the ridiculousness of a fandom for a my little pony cartoon from day one and realized that it would inevitably be "that" kind of fandom. I never took it seriously and I'm just in it for my own pleasure.

Adventure Time, on the other hand, is one of the very few actual good, wide-audience kids' cartoons being produced among a veritable ocean of televised sewage nowadays. For that to be taken by hipsters, goths, and shitty internet meme teenagers and ruined for everyone else is just sad.

I have to agree. I never actively hid the fact that I'm part of this fandom from my friends, and they are aware of it, but none of us bring it up out of respect for each other. Adventure Time is different, though. Honestly, I don't have a single friend that doesn't watch it, and it's the kind of show where you can walk into a restaurant, yell "what time is it?" and half the damn people in there will reply.

The idea of it turning into the next Invader Zim is depressing. It's one of the very VERY few cartoons we have left that are accepted by all of society.
