Rainbow Dash always wanted to be the best. But after that accident, that could never be.
However, a resent development in Manehatten peaked her interest after so many months in self pity. A new magic had been perfected - synthetic wings.
Rainbow Dash stretched out the stumps of her wings nervously.
Although her dactyls had been removed, the main muscles and bones of her wings remained. She'd kept them active with weights and exercises, but she wondered what it would feel like, after so long, to soar.
"Now, Ms. Dash, we haven't done this for a pegasus before," said Velvet Buckings, "But your weather union is paying for the spell, so we'll try it."
"And don't worry," said Twilight Sparkle, "I'll keep an eye on the magic. Their adaptation of the core spell is sound, as far as I can tell."
"Oh, I'm not worried," said Rainbow, her expression saying otherwise, "You'll make sure these bozos do it the right way. Ready when you are!"
Three horns glowed with auras, and three unicorns' eyes closed. The fourth kept vigil as the magic formed.
Rainbow Dash watched in the mirror. Glowing tendrils of energy took shape, translucent like stained glass, at first soft and downy.
Then the magic hardened, crystallized. Rainbow's eyes went wide.
The spell ended.
She unfurled them. A soft glimmering sound filled the air. She flapped them.
Rainbow wings, powerful and shimmering, lifted her into the air. |
