"Hey, Derpy, aren't you coming outside?" the male foal said, his hoof pointed to the door.
A young Derpy Hooves looked up, putting her sandwich to the table. The teacher sat at the other side of the room, her face pressed into papers to grade. Nobody was making fun of her eyes, nobody was laughing at her speech.
Derpy cocked an eyebrow. "But rain isn't it?"
A few ponies stifled giggles, but Derpy didn't hear them. She was focusing on the grinning foal.
"Nah," the foal said, his grin widening. "Nah...it stopped raining. I'm gonna go outside and play tag with Cheerilee. Isn't that right, Cheer?"
Cheerilee's head perked up from her lunch at the sound of her name. She quickly nodded, not quite hearing what he had said.
Derpy glanced out the window. It was dark, but...sometimes it's dark and not raining! Like at night. Maybe night came early today!
Derpy got up from her table and trotted towards the door. "Ok, lumberjack, let's go outside!"
The male foal smiled. "After you, m'laaaady," he said, opening the door. Derpy couldn't believe her luck! Already today, nobody had made fun of her, and now someone wanted to play outside with her!
The child pegasus took a few steps out into the playground when she noticed something wasn't right...wasn't right at all. The heavy rain started to pour down on her. It was raining! Silly ponies, they must've forgot....
Derpy wheeled around to see the male foal locking the door. And, though it remained unheard, the ponies huddled in the lunchroom toppled over in laughter. |
