and spiraled around Twilight, contorting, the ether bending like violate root, raw magus bleeding in purple veins through cracks in time and space. The lavender unicorn's purple eyes bulged. This was not good. A breach in space? Colors unspeakable were leaking, puddling on the floor of the library, while nearby Spike had begun to rant how he could taste numbers on the tip of his tongue.
"Four is ICKY, Twilight! This is getting bad!"
"Spike, your fire! Breath it now on the crack!" Twilight cried. Her dragon retainer complied, blasting a jet of electric green fire on the spreading breach, dulling its intensity, numbing its speed. The dragonfire would keep the crack at bay. For a while.
Twilight's horn shimmered, the air thrummed with magic- what remained of the ether intact trumming to her will. Spellbooks flew from their shelves, spinning around her, flying open. She perused them, thankful for those weeks of speed-reading courses, using her magic to aid her search. Finally, in a tome older than Celestia, she found what she needed. She began to utter a spell in the language of the dead thunder lizards, words popping into the air and spewing from her mouth like the curling tendrils of a squid's arms. They warped out around her swiftly pulsing mouth and then shot into the ether breach, wrapping, bandaging, healing.
For a moment, the crack festered. Twilight finished her spell and held her breath. Then, mercifully, the unspeakable colors began to fade. The breach grew smaller, faded, fizzled, with a puff of white smoke becoming nothing but empty air.
She turned to Spike. "Well, that was fun."
