Outside of Equestria's furthest border is a land called Diomedia. Ponies of a different breed altogether from the ones in Equestria inhabit it. Diomedia took it's name from a horrible, magical giant that once ruled over it named Diomedes. The ponies he enslaved rose up and slew him, but the battle left much of the land barren. The ponies ate his flesh as one of the only sources of sustenance available to them.
Now the land is fruitful and populated by the omnivorous descendants of Diomedes's former slaves. Under a more disciplined, theological rule, the laws of Diomedia have made only the use of elemental magics permittable, and have forbidden the use of it to manipulate nature or to weaponize it against another Diomedian city-state.
Pegasi live among the mountains and make up the military, Unicorns enter the order of druids and uphold the religious practices of the land, and Earth Ponies are restricted to labor and are the foundation of the economy.
Outside of a council of select elders from capital cities, the land of Diomedia is ruled over by the Auld Seer, a male Alicorn who is the last, remaining mare from the time of Diomedes's rule who feasted on the giant's flesh, blood, and marrow. |
