The thing appeared in a flash of magic. It stood bipedal on flat feet enclosed in shoes. Turning its head, it took in its surroundings.
From her nap cloud -- er, her watch post, Rainbow Dash saw it start walking toward Ponyville.
Stealthily bringing her cloud lower, Rainbow could see it seemed to be a grotesque parody of a pig or an adolescent dragon. It was clothed in garments fitted to its bizzare frame, and its neck was mottled with short hairs. Glasses framed its beady little eyes. A voluminous belly jiggled and wobbled as it waddled.
That was far enough. Rainbow swooped down twenty feet in front of it. "Hey you!" she said, rearing and punching the air, "What do you want?"
The creature seemed surprised, but then its ghastly mouth opened, and it uttered strange moanings and babblings. At least it had stopped walking, figured Rainbow.
"Hey!" she shouted again, now hovering. It stopped making noises. "I want to know why you're headed for Ponyville. We don't like monsters around here."
The pig-thing pointed at itself and made a noise with several tongue-flappings. Then it pointed at her and made different noises with lip-closings. Clearly it was intelligent to some degree, but it spoke a vastly different language than Equestrian.
Scootaloo had been playing nearby and had seen Rainbow land, so she ran over. "Wow, cool! What is that thing?"
"Scootaloo! Go get Twilight Sparkle and Applejack!" shouted Rainbow, keeping her eyes on the pig-creature. "I'll hold this thing off!" |
