It's the idea that personal involvement and construction of society is an even less insular affair than before. The world keeps getting smaller, and now that everyone is able to interact on the basest level, now that communication can occur between so many people, not involving the fans would be crazy, when they offer so much. It's a give-and-take relationship at its purest form and I really respect the team for that.
I mean, with people like Thiessen, Sibsy, Nayuki, Flashinthepan and all the others interacting with the fans and taking note of what they want, what they don't want, and how best to improve the show, it's how we can be sure that the quality of the second season will be incredible - because we know we've had something of an impact on these fantastic creative minds.
It works in other products and fandoms too. I'm not sure of the value of the examples I provide to individuals, and I'm sorry for bringing them up, but look at the most popular analogues in other forms of media - webcomics (e.g. MSPA,) video games (Valve, Blizzard, and so on), even literature, there's an unprecedented level of communication between creator and receiver and I think it's just incredible. |
