>>29479703 For me, yeah. The way I personally interpret it is that NMM, Luna, is the black sheep, the Prodigal Child of the family - the evidence that you shouldn't rebel against the mother figure in the show. There's a strong moral presented there. Just having Discord be a mindless killer, or fit the same role as Luna, teaches nothing. I prefer the idea of a Hamlet-style opposition between Discord and Celestia with Discord as the usurper king and Celestia as the true king's ghost, in a metaphorical sense. Discord should represent the other all-powerful parental figure, misguided but firm in its belief of what the right thing to do is. That way you present a strong moral dichotomy that the show can build on, and is truly terrifying - we respect parental figures, those who guide us, and having a parental figure who is equally powerful, equally loving, and yet so clearly in the wrong, still willing to fight for what they believe in, is so much more emotionally palpable and terrifying.
The way I see it, if Discord has to be an archetype, let him be Revan, or at least Sion. |
