I think that might be just a recursion that Twilight doesn't like being wrong. Because all she knew and grew up with were straight facts and books on magic; the idea of random occurrences being predicted threw a monkey wrench in her systematic view of the world, and she got pissed because of it.

It is shitty for many reasons, but the number one reason it is shit is because Fluttershy and Big Mac never met and never interacted. Big Mac has little to no personality other than what fanon builds for him. Roll the two together into a big ball of shit.

The FlutterMac ship was also rather dead, but CL managed to resurrect it by flooding the fanbase with art and porn of them together. It inspired others to draw the pairing more and here we are today. It doesn't help that Fluttershy never had a decent established ship either.
