Running a tabletop GURPS game in the Heroes universe, and I was wondering what power each of the ponies would have if humanized.

Twilight: I was thinking Telekineses at first but now I'm thinking something like Empathetic Mimicry or Intuitive aptitude. You know, she's a master of powers just like she's a master of magic

Rarity: Tough one for me. Shapeshifting?

Applejack: Super strength? Truth-telling-aura? Lie Detection?

Rainbow Dash: Such a fucking toss up between Super Speed and Flight. Like literally straight down the middle.

Fluttershy: Duh. Ability to talk to animals.

Not familiar with Dark Heresy. The system uses d6s only.

Its a universal system, so has info for everything from stone age stuff to magic to singularity cyberpunk psyionics. So the character creation is involved, and there are rules for everything. But in general the basic concepts aren't too bad.

I never feel like these tests are accurate because I genuinely get nervous when I'm taking them and make shitloads of mistakes, and I type much faster from my thoughts than reading from a screen. Like in high school computer class, I got like 40 wpm while the teacher was standing there watching me, and 100 on my 3rd try when she left. It just fucks me up that the whole thing is a test. I actually did take typing classes in middle and high school that utilized programs which had something like this. Just a bunch of random words composed of the home-row keys for the first lesson or so, then adding on letters with each subsequent "chapter."

Simple words and nonsensical sentences, but they were intended to flow well together because of each letter's placement, and I averaged somewhere in the 70-80 range on a good day.

Meanwhile, writers are tasked with taking some piece of artwork and writing a story about it. They can write a tiny poignant piece, or expand it into a massive adventure which used the artwork as thematic inspiration, whatever they want.

I kinda like the way they do things now. The pre-readers filter for the more objectionable stuff, bring the spelling and grammar to acceptable levels, and give fics a chance in the limelight.

That's why you can't use it as a basis for judging what's readable - there are some amazing stories posted that are sinking around 3.5/4 stars because the subject matter is too challenging or introspective for people to enjoy unequivocally, whereas "Cute Shipping Story Number 43" gets five stars because it's competently written and has a pairing a reader likes.

Basically, everything needs to be taken with a grain of salt. I think word of mouth is the most effective tool for sharing good fiction, and the systems we have in place now seem to do alright.

I wouldn't say 4 stars is only worth it if you're a fan of the subject matter. I've seen some 4-star work that's pretty damn great. It's really a case of personal discrimination - some of the six-star stuff is bad, some of the 3-star stuff is good. I think it's just that there's a real dichotomy of what people want in there. Just look at Luna fics compared to, say, RD fics and you'll see what I mean!

Unfortunately, no, I don't. I did the editing/pre-reading for him before he submitted the story, and offered to help if he needed any free editing in the future, but he never contacted me again. It's a shame, because for all its flaws, I really liked that story, and would have liked to see in concluded. Kind of a shame that he gave up on it based on one rejection.

Well I had a ragefit over this particular stuff actually. I asked /co/ to hit me with their favourites, because they kept telling me "the star system doesn't pick up the good stuff". Without exception, every single one they recommended was 5 or 6 stars.

Not saying there aren't any, but apparently the average thread member here can't recommend me good stuff

I dunno. I don't claim to know all of the more elaborate stories out there... I know the Pony Psychology series, while ultimately cliche and blathery towards the end, dealt with some really cool personality interpretations and interesting issues early on.

Most of the stories I do now try to deal with more challenging concepts instead of 'generic cute stories', but I'm not gonna pimp my own shit.

More of EbonMane's new stuff, while perhaps needlessly grim in parts, is very maturely written, and prompts a lot of thought as well.

And we just approved one 'zombie story' that I can't remember the name of that deals with the issue of death and responsibility pretty well, I recommend reading it when it's up.

I am on my PS3, which isn't letting me reply to people posts. I was responding to someone asking a question about a period of time where EqD rejected a bunch of fics.

As for my opinion about it, I like the way EqD pre-readers scan for grammar. I have too many horror stories about fanfiction that had about three periods in three pages. Even the basic grammar policing of EqD puts it above others.

A quick question about EqD, would they accept stories about G1 ponies, without necessarily having to crossover with G4?

But I've been saying that since I first shared my opinion! It's like, god forgive me for saying this so often, Batman & Robin. To a certain degree of acceptable, the prose is acceptable, and it's fun to just read. I adore camp, schmaltzy, adorable shit. I can't help it. I actually have a certain affinity for Nyx because I love matron-Twilight and the kid is just a kid. I don't know, man, it's just...it's like watching Oliver and Company. It's not great, barely even qualifies as passable, but it's heartwarming and makes me happy.
