Believe it or not, Nightmare Moon was a major intrigue to the series once upon a time. She might be "underwhelming" now, but her cliffhanger entrance was a pleasant surprise and is what drew the first wave of Ponyfags in the first place.

"Writing" is a very broad term and generally is kind of a go-to term, anyway.

Is it referring to the scripts?
The way the characters act?
The characterization?
The dialogue?
The overall themes?

I don't think the writing "sucks" so far as how characters interact and are presented in a way that makes them balanced rather than too perfect or too flawed, in relation to other cartoons; hell, to me that's one of the major draws. That doesn't mean there aren't groan-worthy moments, but for what it is, it does it pretty well in ensuring the show isn't too over-the-top in its presentation, yet isn't so mild and soft you choke on its mush.

How many episodes had morals that were just flat out shit, or fucked up? Some of the worst I can think of were Boast Busters and Feeling Pinkie Keen. Boast Busters was so black and white that people still debate who caused the fucking problem. Feeling Pinkie Keen brought up all kinds of retarded faith issues that even Lauren regrets.

Some morals are handled better than others, sure. The best ones are those that present moderation and are more applicable in real terms.

e.g., "It's okay to tell the truth, but it's also okay to keep secrets, depending on how much it benefits." It's a much more relevant and modern thing to teach kids than "You must always tell the truth" or "You must always keep secrets."

Even the more debatable or ambiguous morals are moreso because people tend to take things way too seriously and out of context.

Take Lopunny for example. It's one of the biggest Pokefag furry fantasy Pokemon. Guess what?
