yeah, I went through 3 languages (java, c++, c#), 4 graphics engines (jirrlicht, jmonkeyengine, ogre, mogre), 4 physics engines (some 2D java one, newton, physx, bullet), 2 sound engines (mogrefreeSL, irrklang), and a whole ton of rewriting

depends what you mean by rapid prototyping - in my setup, you can test a single feature pretty quickly in one class without having to modify the rest of the program

ogre in itself is a fantastic engine, and mogre's a pretty great wrapper - does everything ogre does, though it's usually a minor version or two behind. Community's great, loads of addons and tools, still under active development...

Another thing I've noticed my story turning into is a way of judging an audience's reaction. I can see what you mean. If you just want a place to get your ideas out on paper (or in this case, data, I guess), then FP is the best place to do it for proper literary critique. It's devoted to literature, so it's certainly better in that regard - writers always seemed to get the short end of the stick at dA.

Truth be told, I've got it tracked, but I still haven't gotten around to reading it, so I'm sorry for that! I'll probably have time to sit down with it soon. I get what you mean, though. A lot of writers end up doing that, and at least you're just testing the water and gauging reactions with it, rather than taking it overly seriously or giving in. That's the way the world works, man! You appeal to a certain demographic, you keep that demographic. You change, they go, but you'll often find new ones as long as the foundations (in this case, technical stuff) are still present and accounted for at the same level of quality.
