The problem with shipping Pinkie Pie is that a proper relationship isn't just about sloppy makeouts and tribadism, it's about two people working together to enhance both their lives. I'm sure Pinkie would be quite enthusiastic at the physical aspects, but I have serious doubts as to whether she'd be able to help any of the others live their dreams.

Which might be why I tentatively ship her with Fluttershy. Fluttershy doesn't really have a dream, she just wants to live in peace with her animal friends. Pinkie could help her do that by acting as a sort of social buffer between her and the world.

I'm guessing there will be one for Rainbow Dash. Also hoping for Celestia to get her own slot too.

i think pinkie gets a real bad rap when it comes to the issue of emotional and personal maturity

a lot of her character is based on silly, zany humour and random gags, sure, but she's also portrayed as very much intelligent and considerate of her friends

throughout the series she's shown as being the one most likely to pursue the best ending for all her friends, and she's shown to have a great deal of wisdom and a strong desire to help them out - she may not behave in a strictly "normal" manner, but there's never been a situation where she hasn't put the dreams of others first

just look at what she did for gilda in order to help dash, or the way she actively assisted twilight's investigations in feeling pinkie keen - she wants to help, but she's not particularly sure as to how

i personally subscribe to the idea that she's some sort of ancient cosmic being, trapped in mortal form yet unable to think on the same wavelength as other ponies or comprehend them. it's a fun thought, though it's absolutely not true.

I think in some ways, the format of the show encourages a longer term view, where less slice-of-lifey stories don't. Over a long period of time they're likely to go through more than one relationship, making individual ships not mutually exclusive, and thus not needing an offensive defense.

I wish this show had more reoccurring and fleshed out male characters, simply for more exploration into the relationship dynamics they would have with the mane cast.

I miss that, too. I cannot stress enough how different the Ranma days were. The internet was a lot harder to get onto, for one, and wasn't so centrally organized around the monolothic sites and their spin-offs as it is today. And Ranma itself was a fan-translated manga spread from fan to fan before Japan was the latest fad. So to even hear about it you had to have enough savvy to get online in the early nineties, hear about an obscure Japanese comic without an official translation, somehow get your hands on a copy of it, and then find your way to the IRC rooms or bulletin boards. Seriously, I think they serve a purpose, but that purpose is heavily subverted by people having overly high opinions of themselves. I adopted a tripcode in this very thread because I think my musings on the characters are of high enough quality that they'd spark conversations in which being able to distinguish my posts from that of anonymous is required to prevent confusion.

Needless to say, this is an extremely arrogant assumption based on inherently biased evidence. The same goes for everyone that adopts a tripcode: to believe that your identity not only needs distinguishing but protecting is arrogant. And there's a great many people out there that are just plain wrong about whether they should adopt a trip.

But still, it's helpful when the person in question adopts a trip for the right reasons. Our own fandom has some very useful members that I'm glad are distinguishing themselves from the crowd. The big-name fan phenomenon is nothing new, and I've got no problem with people striving to reach that status.
