A while back there was a guy who told us his story, that he works at a bakery in NJ and that his managers were debating whether to get a license to use My Little Pony characters on their cookies as a promotional tie-in, because they do that with a lot of popular children's brands. So it's probably the same guy, and it's probably why they're getting the date, to do a tie in. Probably legit unless he's a really elaborate troll, but it's unlikely for most people to put in that much effort.

Well, the demographics for viewership of my episode uploads on youtube show about 66% male and 34% female on average, with many of the female viewers being significantly older or younger than the male viewers.

Anime style choices aren't inherently bad. There have been quite a few anime that came out with visually distinct characters.
The problem is that people who use the anime style typically overuse the symbols that are usually so prominent: triangle noses, wide, circle eyes or square eyes, etc.
