Aside from the basic errors with the writing, I really didn't like the portrayals of the show characters. I've seen the characters written well, perhaps even brilliantly, and in this story they were pale imitations of what we know them to be.

Oh, and the direct references to the show were really clumsily done. For example: turning a quick gag from FPK where Twilight literally burns with rage (clearly a homage to steaming from the ears from earlier cartoons) into a thing that just happens to some unicorns when they get angry and having Twilight do it towards Silver Spoon and Diamond Tiara. It just screams of 'Do you remember that bit in the show where X said/did Y? Because we also remember it! Like us by association!'
