But obvious nods to the original characters still exist (for instance Twilight's mother obviously being the original Twilight Twinkle though not officially named). Think about that a moment. Using redesigned original series characters but naming them something different is OK. So then, season 2 needs a villain who represents corruption, evil and darkness. And who do you think HUB chose? Tirec, motherfucker. Updated, renamed and ready to be the villain he was meant to be instead of being killed by a rainbow in the pilot episode.

Paying a graphic designer costs money, so somebody decided to cut corners. Not actually. Although writers do find inspiration in their own experiences, the writers are paid directly by whoever is making the show or series to write things for it.

The problem are the following kind of fanfic writers:

That raises the question of how often this happens and whether it's common practice. It seems like a company such as HT should have pretty strict rules about this sort of thing, but clearly they don't, and it's blatantly obvious that this same level of effort goes into some of their other merchandise.

That robs MS's right to do what he pleases with his art and sell it to anyone he wishes. It's not really about him making money off it, it's about the rights of the individual person. That settlement does not deter companies from simply doing the same thing over and over again, because it is more profitable to simply steal art and hope you don't get caught, and if you do, oh well, you would have paid someone to make it anyway.

Bottom line, they should be actually PUNISHED for it, not just made to pay what they would have if they had contracted him to design it.
