I wrote a little something for them a while back.

Basically, one of the most important functions of biological creatures is to reproduce. Taking that away from them, they have to find a new way to leave something behind. So they take work and hobbies to the extreme. They get obsessed over leaving something behind that proved they existed, whether it be a mathematical formula or a building.
Unfortunately, being mules and the implications that carries, they tend to get kicked out of the major cities and wind up in border towns. They know how to work, and they work hard for their future, but some people can't see past what made them.

Concerning species and magic:

Unicorns (and by extension Alicorns) are the only ponies that have an active form of magical ability. All other pony races inherit passive magical abilities like the ability of a Pegasus to walk on clouds.

From what we can tell in the series, only ponies (and dragons to some extent) use magic but that does not mean other species cannot use it. Following the "shaman" idea, Zebras may have some ability to channel the natural energies found in the world itself.

As far as Griffons, Diamond Dogs and Bison are concerned, I have no idea what magical talents (passive or otherwise) they may have inherited.

Unlike unicorns, they don't have any innate magical power that their bodies generate.

Instead they have to draw on the basic elements found in nature (Air, fire, earth, water, etc.) in order to produce any effects. The closest thing you can compare it too would be as a cross between the One Power from the Wheel of Time series and bending from Avatar.

Zebras draw their power from the surrounding environment and combine the different energies in complex recipes/structures to produce specific effects. It is a much more limited form of magic then the unicorn's blanket magical energy that covers all the bases, but it also has the ability to be much stronger depending on the elements in play.

Reminds me of geomancy. The zebras can "mark" the ground with specific symbols/runes and cause an effect on the Earth. It's part magic, but there is an order to it, so it's also part science.

But the Zebra who taught them geomancy only gave them half of what he knew, and he told the zebra children that they had to go out in the world if they want to discover the rest. They essentially draw their power from it (and plants, and water, and animals, and the wind, etc.). the only limit is there is a finite amount of energy available dependent on the size/potency of the source. Earth energy will always be plentiful, but if you use all the energy from a plant or animal, it would wither and die. Zebras who weaponize this tactic against other creatures are put to death for immoral practices.

The energy can be replenished, however. This either happens over a period of time as it seeps back into inanimate objects or by eating/soaking up nutrients for living things.

I went a much simpler route with it. Basically, to me, the Everfree forest was just fucking hard to live in, so the ponies settled around it. It's wild because no one goes in there and tames everything and cuts down the trees and mines the gems or does anything of that nature. The ponies left it alone because they don't like going into it.

My primary concern with this card is that the highest converted mana cost among creatures in this set is 3, which limits this card’s usefulness in the stand-alone metagame. You could use it to cast a non-green creature or get a discounted 3-drop, but at the risk of allowing your opponent to drop an equally powerful creature.
