So why all the hype over this and MLP?

Homestuck makes less sense than End of Evangelion (And is much less entertaining), and MLP is just another cartoon with a dry story that most likely has already been done in some other form.

So tell me why the fuck you guys like these so much.

Homestuck is pretty funny, and I find sometimes I have trouble pulling myself away.
Most of the characters are lovable in their own way, and while the story doesn't always make sense, the author manages to somehow tie almost all the loose ends tie together.

Well, first of all, there's the ironic factor of grown men watching My Little Pony, which I am sure that you are quite aware of. Secondly, the characters in the show are very well developed, even more so for a children's show. The plotlines aren't all that amazing, but the show has good character interaction, plenty of mature humour (Not in the mature sense of the word, obviously), and it is just one of those things which makes you feel good when watching it. Ah, and the animation is good.

I'm not saying it's for everyone, nor will I hail it as something sensational or world-changing. And even though what I said in the previous paragraph was strictly my opinion, like any other thing that I am a fan of, I enjoy it and that's really all that matters, right? If you want to try it out, don't go for the first episode. Try searching up "Dragonshy" on YT, I always use that for introducing people as it starts out relatively quickly. Try sitting through that. If you don't like it, fair enough, everyone is entitled to their opinion. But try watching it, just once.

Alot of people with short attention spans give up on Homestuck because it takes FOREVERRRRRRRRR to start picking up. It starts of as a kid dicking around in his house and when we skip a few thousand pages or so we start seeing shit like universes with cancer, timetravelling shenanigans, and so on. Plus the author specializes in color and characterization so its really nice to look at and read. The story can be very confusing if you dont pay attention very well but overall its really great. But seeing the threads everytime you open /co/ can be annoying which might cause instant resentment of it.
As for MLP it has wonderful animation and is not as bad as its made out to be.
I think you hate the fanbase more than the show or comic but its understandable. Im not saying your opinion sucks im just giving a quick explanation of why it gets so much hype.

Homestuck is an overall good quality smart webcomic with lots and lots of content. And ongoing, so there is lots of room for speculation.

MLP is a cartoon which the characters are simple and endeared to the viewer, and they enjoy the saccharin atmosphere not present in most modern cartoons. It also has decent animation and good voice acting.

Have fun and I hope you like it!

The thing I hate about Homestuck is that it's the same kind of humor and jokes I get from just hanging out/talking with my friends. A lot of my friends LOVE it, and I've tried (and am trying again) to get into it, but I just read it and go "It's like I'm reading something about me and my friends" but instead of liking it for being something I can relate to, it's boring and kind of irks me how similar it is. It just feels like an easy way for the author to cash in on early 20somethings with "bizarre" senses of humor. "xD OH I THINK NICK CAGE IS IRONICALLY GOOD, TOO. I'M GONNA BUY THIS CHARACTER'S T-SHIRT." I'm REALLY trying to like it, I really am, but I'm, unfortunately, not enjoying much of it so far.

I'm in act 3. I was told the reason it's so tedious a lot of the times is because it originally started off as the fans choosing a lot of the actions, so, that's why you have the little ">>>Do x entertaining thing" then the actual text is like "You think about doing..." then the next page is "While that would be hilarious, you remember that..." so it just feels like a huge waste of time reading that page. That's the thing that really irritates me as I'm trying to get into this. There's tons of hilarious stuff in Homstuck, but a lot of it is just tiring to get to when you have to deal with the Captchalogue shit and the stuff I was talking about previously.

Not entirely correct. Problem Sleuth, the adventure before Homestuck, was entirely driven by user commands. Homestuck has only had name suggestions, but it keeps the command prompt format and makes pokes fun at the kind of suggestions a reader might offer.

Because it was originally user driven in a sense, alot of the intro shit can be really stupid but hussie eventually disbanded that system and took over so its slightly less stupid. There are alot of people who actually enjoy Act 1 over the others because the captchalogue stuff is silly and people love the shenanigans which is pretty much dropped later in the story but its all a matter of taste.

I dunno man it seems like there is two types of humor to Homestuck. On one hand you have that fags that think bucket and Nic Cage jokes are "XD so hilarious" and on the other hand you have some pretty funny or clever word play in a lot of the pesterlogs. Guess that's why Dave and Rose are my favorite characters.

homestuck is a good comic, not nearly as good as problem sleuth was, because it's starting to take itself a bit seriously, and i think that the trolls are almost completely unnecessary characters that are obviously Hussie just pandering to the retard Tumblr and /co/ fanbase, but it's pretty funny, and has awesome music and flashes

MLP is a rarity (pun to the max) among cartoons because it's a good show (not the best, but definitely an above-par one), that's intended to be for little girls. this is cool because no one ever bothers to assume that little girls are capable of thinking beyond LOL MOM I WANT DAT TOY so they don't actually create quality entertainment, but Faust does. it also has some awesome outside references, decent character dev, juts things that you don't normally see in that kind of show, it also has cute ponies doing cute things

I put the xD and quotes there to sort of give off my statement was meant to be stupid. I guess it could sort of make sense to say "ironically good." Like, situational irony, as in you get the opposite of what you expect. You expect Nick Cage to be bad, but he's good. Although, Nick Cage isn't usually good in a lot of his movies. So, it'd be more like "I enjoy Nick Cage ironically. I know he's a bad actor, but I still enjoy him." It is 5:33AM right now, so, I could also just be talking out of my ass.

I watched a film he stars in called Adaptation for an English honors class. When I saw who starred in it, I nearly shit myself with laughter. I watched the movie and it was actually pretty good. You know he's a Coppola but uses his stage name so he doesn't ride on his family fame? I think that makes him a pretty respectable dude.

MLP is cute, has actual characters with funny interactions, plenty of references and gags that an older audience is more likely to get, and pretty good and versatile animation (especially considering it's Flash). Plus, it's super-cute. Seriously, it's sheer, soul-lightening, happiness-inducing adorableness can't be underemphasised.
Because sometimes, you need something a bit lighter to balance out your bad day.

Homestuck has its own humour, and is silly and serious on a cycle and often at the same time. Also, some of us like working out its tangled web of Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey.
And... yeah. I can't really explain why I like it, and others have already done so before me.

No worries, man, I knew the quote was supposed to be stupid. I just see people (mostly on tumblr or IRL at my college) saying they ironically enjoy such-and-such and I don't have a clue what they mean. For example, there was a girl in one of my classes who always wore a TMNT hoodie, the kind with the turtle's eyes on the hood, and she said she was wearing it ironically. Is it ironic because she's an adult wearing a children's show-themed hoodie? Or because TMNT seems stupid but is actually entertaining? Or because she was wearing it on a hot summer day when you'd expect to see someone in a t-shirt? I don't get it. If I wore the thing I'd just say I fucking like TMNT and this is a damn comfy hoodie.

Adaptation is a fan-fucking-tastic movie. Nic probably just needs a good director or something to make sure he doesn't go completely batshit in a scene.

I'm going to be a bitter old dork complaining about the Old Days but man I really liked Problem Sleuth and prefer it.

I mean, Homestuck is an outgrowth of that comic, but it feels like too convoluted at times with the amount of alternate timelines/alternate realities/here is a pile of new characters (PS did the same thing, but I mean it didn't seem as much). Also, sometimes my eyes glaze over at the chatlogs and I think the Hivebent characters stole the show in a bad way.

Like, at first I liked their gimmick that they're a race of stupid teenagers and that each one of them is like a different Terrible Internet Person archetype (the angry know it all, the deviant art shipper, the sweaty creep, the powergaming larper, etc) but then actual terrible internet embraced them and said they were amazing and I think that their popularity motivated Hussie to put them more front and center in the narrative.

That was pretty directionless and vague but I guess the main thing I want to get at is that Homestuck feels bloated to me. Even ignoring the fanbase and its dregs, it's just really been dragging to me.

I kinda lost interest in Homestuck when Hussie gave up all pretense of actually telling a story and the whole thing collapsed into constants shifts in characters, time, and places.

It wasn't so bad at the start, when it was just a few characters, and there was an actual narrative to follow (getting everyone into the game and off the doomed world). Dave climbing to the top of his building while the city crumbles in the distance? Awesome.

But then it peters out because there's no clear purpose anymore.

The thing is, a lot (two words!) of the time, Hussie will go to some lengths to satisfy the desires of these fans only in the most grotesque and perverse ways possible. There were a pair of characters who lots of the squealing fangirls wrote and drew "slash" of (or "yaoi", as they would almost certainly call it), and after showing one of them flirting with the other in a flashback, we see that flirting one grotesquely making out with the decapitated head of the other, hours after he had been murdered.

Is this him changing what he was doing because of the fans? Yes. But only so as to have some fun at their expense. To me, that's fair game.

I felt sad when the intermission tied back into everything. Like, it coulda remained on its own, a lovely creature of throwback PS humor, but then everything has to be ground into the Backstory Machine and spit out to be incredibly important.

Like I know callbacks are fun, but does everything have to tie into the backstory of the trolls or the troll ancestors or the secret reverse trolls or the chess-piece peoples from the failed double-whammy sucessful universe possiblity?

The plot suddenly derailing for a forty minute fist-fight between Old Snake and Revolver Ocelot would actually be a pretty good ending for Homestuck.

Problem Sleuth felt more like one of those choose-your-own-adventure books compared to a traditional comic.

Homestuck is basically a jigsaw puzzle (no looking at the box!), with a few new pieces a day. Sometimes you focus on certain areas, and later have to fit those in somewhere too.

Homestuck fans annoy me because a lot of them come here (usually from /v/) for the general threads and take their stupidity with them

The Intermission is part of Homestucks universe? Do they reappear in the actual comic?

The intermission IS part of the actual comic.

And yes, they're the trolls' exiles.
