08/14/11(Sun)16:03 No.28715460>>28714626 Characters are like processes. They don't really "exist" per se, at least not in a physical sense. But they do exist as a concept, described by a series of electrical impulses inside your brain, whenever you choose to think about them. You are presented with the character program, and you choose to instantiate it, thus making your personal conception of the character into a process, or your personal instance of that program.
Canon is the program. The code, that describes the character's default values upon instantiation. Their history, their personality, what they look like. The sum of these values, their "state", describes them. However, any number of instances of these characters can exist. One running in my mind, one in yours, another over there, and so forth. As the operator you can choose to manipulate values of that character's state, with values more preferable to you. This creates a state of the character which is unique from the state of other instances, and unique from the default state outlined by the code. This is headcanon. Your own personalized input, modifications to a character process. |
