She has a unique and interesting character design, being not a pony or a horse type thing of any kind.
She has a nice voice.
She's one of the few "less than kind" characters on the show AND she has a past history with one of the mane 6. This gives her a near endless story telling potential. For instance, she could make up with the others or she could become a kind of Roger Klotz character who has some sympathetic qualities, but is still a jerk with a lot of growing up to do.

Also I can relate to her in a lot of ways. I've had a close friend with whom my jealously did significant damage to our friendship. And I went through a stretch where I thought I was way cooler than everyone.

TL;DR: Aesthetics, story potential, personal damage.
