limbs bending at 90 degree angles are usually seen as stiff. Why? Because poses these angles are usually spotted in are sedentary. Like someone sitting down, look at their arms and legs. It would be the same as drawing a cartoon character that's only drawn at a select few angles. It kills the dimensions of the figure. Unless the shot requires simplicity, don't try to draw angles where the character is looking directly at you, or directly to the side, or, the angle most commonly abused by amateurs, the 3/4 angle.
If you draw angles that aren't any of the above, it's going to look a lot more organic and create variety and interest. |
