Okay Mr. Sarcastic, I'll lay it on you, but also for others who might have a genuine curiosity as to what has shaped my views.
Studying 20th century print cartoonists, Famous Artist's Cartoon Course, college instructors, John K's blog, Animation World Network, Andrew Loomis, vilpuu, George Bridgeman, observations from figure drawing, life drawing, and drawing from references. I like to think that I'm well grounded in drawing principles because I'm still trying to rigorously adhere to them to learn them. Style is of no concern, regardless of how recognizable my own drawings may be. What's important for an artist, like the number one thing, is that they're observant. And then the next most important thing is to be able to take what you observe into your own abstractions to express ideas, whether these relate to a theme or suggesting character in characters. |
