Still, point is, much as I love the show, and I do, what I'm attached to are the characters. As long as the characters are preserved, the setting and atmosphere can be played with, especially if it creates something that can, potentially, be as interesting, or more so, than the source product. I think that's what fanfic, good fanfic, is about - artistic liberty - and I feel that way because I can accept fanfic isn't often going to be as in-depth, detailed, or high-quality as the actual product or a similar product set in an original setting, with original characters. It's fanfic. I just like experimentation and I enjoy familiarity, sometimes together. |
