The warm sunlight of a day in late spring glistened off the imitation-candy exterior of Sugarcube Corner. Birds flew through the air, tweeting their joy. This only made Mrs. Pinkamena Pie sadder as she walked to work. She pushed open the door. "SURPRISE!" shouted her friends.
The straight-maned pony gasped. All of her bestest friends were there. Rainbow Dash was wearing that ridiculous costume she'd had Rarity make. Rarity was wearing goofy glasses with a fake mustache. Fluttershy had dyed herself green.
Even Twilight Sparkle was there, although the Alchemical Evocation spell she'd miscast earlier that day necessitated certain... accoutrements. She wore a poofy diaper, and for laughs, Trixie's hat. Pinkamena had to admit it was a silly look for her.
She gave them all a weak smile. "Thank you, every one of you, for trying to cheer me up." She walked slowly toward Fluttershy.
Fluttershy's eyes watered; then she hugged her, and sobbed openly into her mane.
Twilight stared at the floor, trying not to chill the mood further and failing.
Rainbow Dash piped up. "Look, we all made a promise. Even if Pinkie can't keep her end of the bargain, we're gonna have the best damn wake ever!" She motioned to the pine box sitting on the table. "She would have wanted us to put the fun in funeral, and that's exactly what we're gonna do!" She pointed to the kazoos sitting on the table. "That's what Applejack wanted us to do, ever since she found out about the can-" Her voice trailed off.
Pinkamena sniffed. "It's okay, Dashie. We said goodbye." She picked up the kazoo with her mouth, and breathed a heavy sigh. "BUZZZZzzzzz." |
