Being reductive of the shows plots doesn't make them on par with a poorly written fanfic. The reason we like the show is because it's intelligently penned. I'm not going to pretend that Past Sins isn't popular, but having read a substantial chunk of it, the writing is no where near on the level of the show, or a great deal of other, higher quality fanfiction - and, yes, the premise is stupid. The only difference between what you sketched out (and far be it for me to request anything further, seeing as you're doing a request - if you want recompense I'd be glad to offer it in the form of my mediocre writing talent) is that for the scenario I envisioned, the background/scenery was pretty much non-existent -it's a visual aid for a very simple scene I'm writing out, Pinkamena basically whispering evil thoughts into Pinkie's head while the two of them verbally spar in the blackness of her own mind.

Because (from what I understand, speaking purely from an outside viewpoint) the quality and relevance of the OCs in FO:Eq is leaps and bounds above the ones in Past Sins. FO:Eq is a story based largely on original chracters, told in the Fallout universe with some basis in the show. Past Sins is a fic that threw a bunch of stupid ideas and characters into the MLP universe and went to town with bad writing.

I don't know much about Fallout: Equestria, but I do know that Past Sins introduces a chracter in the very first chapter with the name "Spell Nexus". I struggled not to punch my monitor when I read that.

I like Past Sins because at its core it focuses on will and choice, like all the literature I enjoy most. I like it because of the carefully planned slow build to painful near-climaxes, then the plummet into pain. I like how fear and misinformation and secrets keep the best and brightest of Equestria from seeing the dangers clearly until it's too late.

But from everything I keep hearing, I don't want to read it. Doesn't Nyx mess up the whole canon-ness of the show, or whatever it's called? Like it would be impossible for this story to be an episode. But either way, it is a fanfiction after all, so I can't really argue much.

Well that's cool and all but I don't know much about the fallout universe, save for you know it being during a fallout. By comparison I know lots about the MLP universe and like to see weird things done that may not happen in the shows canon. So the idea of a baby nightmare moon appeals to me. (Especially with the fan divide over whether Nightmare Moon is in fact a manifestation of Luna's fragile psyche OR a giant evil cloud of darkness that took control of Luna). While the fic doesn't specify either of these as an option, it does present an interesting scenario that I like.

Naw, she's a stuck-up procedure fixated over-educated royal bitch. The writing of that story is very stodgy as well, so it doesn't help her portrayal, but I feel like the author's characterization of her and her sister (while novel and not the typical 'OMG EMO LUNA BS), is really inaccurate and unpleasant.

His AJ writing is pretty decent though.
