08/05/11(Fri)20:56 No.28425113>>28424610 Colbert's a comedian who used to work for The Daily Show, a show which parodied cable news shows with satire-laced headlines, over-the-top video pieces from their "reporters", opinion segments, and an interview to round out the episode. It's intelligently done, and the host, Jon Stewart, does his research. It's very left-leaning in feel, however.
Colbert struck out on his own and got a sister show to The Daily Show, called The Colbert Report. His show is a parody of US cable news pundit shows (Bill O'Reilly being the ur-example). He himself is libertarian, but his character is an over-the-top republican charicature laced with hyprocritical humour, and pop culture callouts. Colbert laces it with his own innate nerdiness (he's gone toe-to-toe on Silmarillion minutia, has admitted to being a D&D player (his favourite character was a paladin), is a comic nerd, and recently made a shout out to the bronies), and is endearing therefore. He does mostly opinions and headlines, rounding out episodes with an interview. The whole thing drips of sarcasm and satire, but mostly in good fun. |
