Ehhh, what makes the Mary Sue-style character with their changing eye colours and canon-character love interests so terrible (beyond the obvious) is their horrible creator with no writing skill and no suitable story to tell with their horrible mish-mash character. Twilight has the features of a Mary Sue, but they're just part and parcel of the setting of a fairly well-told and consistent world.

If anything the typical Mary Sue elements come from juvenile authours emulating what they loved and saw as special in child-appropriate stories, but without any of the tact or finesse that these elements were originally used. They're emulating children story stuff like princesses but they don't know how to actually write, that doesn't mean that someone who can write couldn't use princesses correctly.

None of those things came easy. She had her butt handed to her by all three teams before discovering she was a good organizer. If anything, Celestia's more of a Mary Sue for being so perfect and all-powerful since everyone always loves her and she's always right. But since Celestia is a secondary character whose main job is being a plot device it's okay for her to be static and flat, she just has to be a presence.

Ugh, I remember learning about cookies when I was 14. I'd been looking at porn online for the first time and something was wrong with the computer. I deleted the browser history and tried to pretend like it was from something else, which my parents bought since they knew even less about computers than I did.
