Twilight groaned, shutting her eyes in annoyance. Rubbing her head with her hooves, she contemplated how she would deal with the two until the others got back. Just then, her eyes snapped open in revelation.

Twilight got up, and began walking without another word. Gummy looked up at Rainbow Dash, who simply stared back. Dash shrugged, and together, the two made their way to where Twilight was.

They stared at the ladder. It seemed to go on for miles and miles. It led up, and up… and all they could see was darkness. Silently, Twilight began to climb up, deftly using her hooves to go higher and higher. Dash placed Gummy on her head, and began to ascend using her wings.

“No wings!” Twilight whispered harshly as she heard the flapping below her. Dash let out a grunt, and complied. She clumsily slipped her hooves in and out of the rungs of the ladder. A light emanated from above her. As she looked up, she could see that Twilight’s horn was giving off a faint glow.

They continued to climb, nothing but infinite blackness surrounding them. It seemed to go on forever. Dash was quickly growing bored with the endeavor, but still, Twilight pressed on.

Dash turned her head. There was nothing to be seen. She could’ve sworn that something had-

More visions. They battled an Ursa Major. More flashes. They crossed the great Equuish Plains, where nopony had ventured before. More explosions. They defeated an evil being, so great that its form could not truly be divined.

Dash continuously found the assaults on her mind and being boggling. She wasn’t sure how well Gummy was holding up on top of her head, or how Twilight knew about all that they were seeing. All she knew was that she was so much closer to the heaven that she longed for than she had ever been before.

And at last, they emerged at the top. Light enveloped them. Twilight stepped off the ladder, and onto the great whiteness that expanded forever around her. Dash climbed up next to her, and Gummy leapt off her head, landing with a soft pat on the blankness.

As they peered down below, they could see all that was. They saw the creation of Equestria, the banishment of the younger princess, and the founding of Ponyville. It was all there, right before their eyes. Dash looked up, and saw her friends surrounding her; cheering her on, and giving praise to her accomplishments. She couldn’t comprehend it all. But there it was.

“Take life slowly,” a voice whispered next to her. Dash knew it was Twilight, but she didn’t bother turning her head; she was too busy letting all the emotions she had never known before envelop her. “Don’t let life pass you by.”

She closed her eyes.

She woke up.
