Basically, it ALL revolves around the cutie marks. Tell me if you agree:
The show has proven time and time again that cutie marks are what a pony is destined to do their whole life. It's their passion, their creme' de' creme, or whatever the brazilians call it. When ANYTHING causes a conflict with their cutie mark, it creates an existential breakdown within the pony being conflicted. It's happened with every member of the mane cast.
Twilight- Couldn't handle the parasprites with logic or magic, causing her to go crazy
Applejack- didn't want to fail at her cutie mark, which was apple bucking, so she tried to pull the weight on her own. It resulted in her going against her element of honesty and causing trouble everywhere
Fluttershy- causes her to become vengeful and angry when animals do not perk up to her.
Pinkie Pie- becomes anti-social and vicious when nobody wants to party with her and she thinks she has no friends
Rainbow Dash- Becomes scared like a little filly when her ability to show off her flying skills is in jeopardy (or being outclassed by Rarity)
Rarity- when her designs are mocked by Hoity Toity, she becomes a sorrowful mope who has terrible taste in bath robes
It even happened with Celestia and Luna. Celestia's cutie mark was to rise the sun. Nightmare Moon wouldn't let that happen, causing her to lose it angrily battle NM, resulting in the thousand year banishment. and finally, during those thousand years, Luna couldn't raise the moon, as it was Celestia's job now. That drove her off the edge.
It's an interesting dynamic. |
