Not all ponies in the world have cutie marks. Those are special trait found only in the quite, peaceful land of Equestria. Other ponies have lost these, whether it be from the separation from Celestia's magic, or simply from lack of need is unknown. Cutie Marks are good ways to spot recent immigrants, and good marks for cons in other countries.
Barbarian Ponies in the cold, dark Northlands judge a pony's character by their scars and attitude, like their Dwarf and Goblin countrymen. They ridicule Cutie Marks, saying you should learn more from a Pony's face than their ass.
In the South and Middle Countries, where ponies have taken up with Mules, Zebras, and Camels, along with fearsome animals like Jackals, Coyotes, and Hyenas, follow their practice of using permanent dyes to mark elaborate patterns in their fur.
In the East, Ponies in the underground cities of Dragons have borrowed their fire-breathing brethren's practice of piercing, gold and silver false teeth, and adorning oneself with beautiful, clawcrafted jewelry, with jewels and precious metals being plentiful in the Dragon's mines, jewelry is as common as dirt, and intricate pieces worth more than what an average Equestrian's cold afford with a lifetime of paychecks are often given away for free. It's not uncommon for ponies from this land to have more gold in their mouths than in an opera diva's jewelry box. |
