In regards to the poor writing of that 'sleepover' fic...
For one thing, given the content of this franchise in the first place, it takes a semi-talented writer to elevate any fan-writing above the 'stupid kids cartoon' level that the show has already established - most people who like it enjoy it on a higher level than that, but it is, at its core, still a show for a younger audience.
That being said, the fic in question is ENTIRELY written on that level - which is puzzling because the subject matter it deals with is entirely at odds with that kind of narrative style. It's written like a short story from middle-school, but it has ponies fucking...
That's why it's bearable in the setup for the story, but quickly becomes unbearably awful - as soon as the writer tries to introduce the idea of sex, they make a huge number of mistakes, not the least of which is:
>Most fapfic writers have no fucking idea how to transition from normal stuff to sex
People are reading these to get off, obviously, so this problem gets overlooked a lot, but anyone who is even somewhat decent at writing realizes that a jarring switch from
>"Remember when we defeated Nightmare Moon guys?"
To
>"BOY YER PENIS SURE IS LARGE BIG MAC LEMME SUCK IT"
is inane.
That said, aside the structure of the story, the writing style continues to remain childish and technically poor throughout, and it fails to provide anything tantalizing aside the act of sex itself - the description is lack-luster, the dialogue is wooden and un-motivating, and the entire thing just feels like 90% of the self-wish-fulfilment garbage that permeates this fandom.
