a proper powerhalf is best done with one hook, even when starting from double hooks and resinking your hook back in, its better to free the same side leg inorder to get better leverage and prevent a counter (him turning into you from the half).
when you flattened out the opponent, you dont have to worry as much about staying on, letting you focus more aggressively on an attack, hence why i dig the power half nelson, its simple and easy to put on, and affords excellent control over the opponent, setting up other attacks, while being a tough crank in its own right.
finishes from single leg ride can include, but are not limited too: wrestlers guillotine/twister from cross body, w/guillotine off power half tilt, choke off power half tilt (either arm triangle or rnc, depending on position or preference), aggressively cranking power half (if hes resisting), calf crush from cross body, banana split entry, calf crush from banana split, toe hold/ankle lock from banana split, w/guillotine entry from banana split, top wrist lock/americana from cross body (not something i personally go for, as if i have that kind of arm control im looking for the twister, but ill list it here because i know its possible.)
its useful to view these few positions as elements of a whole, rather then segregated instances, a good rule of thumb is if you are cross body and dont have opposite side arm control or a half nelson, you want to either go for a banana split entry (if low), or throw your other leg back in (if high). since a bottom man can easily turn over into half guard from the single leg ride. |
